Students organize it. Licensed attorneys teach it.

Loudoun is one of the wealthiest counties in the country, and plenty of our neighbors still face evictions, school hearings, and immigration questions alone. Help usually exists. People just don't know where it is or what they're entitled to. We bring real attorneys into public libraries, explain the law in plain language, and connect people to free legal services.

Since April 2026, we've run 7 free workshops at 4 Loudoun libraries, reached 100+ residents, and made 20+ referrals to legal help.

    Commended by the bench

Judge Matthew Snow of Virginia's Twentieth Judicial Circuit recognized KYRL in a written letter of commendation.

    The people behind it

Abbas Raza, founder of Know Your Rights Loudoun, in a suit and tie

    Abbas Raza

    Founder and Executive Director

Abbas is a senior at Rock Ridge High School in Ashburn. He started KYRL in April 2026 after watching neighbors, families, and classmates deal with housing disputes, school discipline, and immigration questions without knowing the law was on their side. He recruits the attorneys, builds the partnerships, and is leading the expansion into Fairfax and Prince William. He plans to study political science and go on to law school.

    Common questions

    Are you lawyers?
No. We're high school students. Every workshop is taught by a licensed Virginia attorney, and for your specific situation we connect you with legal professionals who can advise you.
    Does it cost anything?
Our workshops and referrals are free. A few resources we list charge a fee, like the $35 consultation through the Virginia Lawyer Referral Service, and we mark those clearly.
Do I have to share my immigration status?
No. Workshops are open to everyone, and you can walk in without signing up.
How fast will I hear back on a referral?
Within 48 hours. If it's an emergency, call 911 or one of the 24/7 hotlines at the top of this page instead of waiting on us.
Can my organization host a workshop?
Yes. Call (571) 733-6692 or message @kyr.loudoun and tell us who you serve and what topics would help them most.
