Abbas Raza is a junior at Rock Ridge High School in Ashburn, Virginia. He started Know Your Rights Loudoun after noticing a gap — neighbors, families, and classmates dealing with housing disputes, school disciplinary hearings, and immigration questions without knowing they had rights that protected them.
In DECA, Abbas qualified for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) after placing fifth at the Virginia State competition — a process that required building a full business plan, financial projections, and a live pitch under pressure. In policy debate, he competed at Metro Finals, researching federal legislation and constructing legal arguments that directly shaped how he approaches legal education in his community.
His coursework runs deep across both sides of his interest in law and policy. AP Economics sharpened how he analyzes the real cost of inaccessible legal help on low-income families. APUSH gave him context for how legal frameworks have historically protected — and failed — everyday Americans. AP Computer Science built the technical foundation that powers this very website. He plans to study political science and pursue a career in law or public policy.
He built KYRL to outlast himself — structured so future student leaders can carry it forward year after year without starting from scratch.
Loudoun County is one of the wealthiest counties in America. But thousands of residents still navigate legal challenges alone — not because help does not exist, but because they do not know where to look or what they are entitled to.
We bridge that gap by bringing real attorneys into community spaces, translating legal complexity into usable knowledge, and connecting residents directly to pro bono services.
"Understanding your rights is the first step to exercising them."
Free workshops held at public venues. Open to every Loudoun resident regardless of income or status.
